I started riding with the fireflies in 2007, in an attempt to save my uncle stefan’s life, who was then battling with cancer. Sadly he didn’t make it. I then rode to try save sarah lamping’s life- she was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 31. Sadly she didn’t make it.
I now ride for the spirit of the flies. They are the most inspiring group of people I have ever come across. They have an ability to see the sparkle in every soul. They find support for others when their own strength is flailing. They find humour in the most painful hours.
I have gained some incredibly special friendships through the fireflies, some of them have become as close as family. So this year I am riding to celebrate. Celebrate these friendships, celebrate being alive and admiring our stunning alpine nature. Whilst remembering that strength makes everything possible.
